Q&A with Mehdi Soltanian, Finance Director for Exclusive Automotive Group

How did you get your start in this industry and what brought you to EAG? 

I funded my Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting at George Mason University by selling vehicles. It would pay for my courses, books, meals and small pocket money. It was a wonderful thrill looking forward to the next deal while continuing my education. Upon graduating George Mason University with a BS in Accounting, I knew that I wanted to be in the car business immediately.  I showed my portfolio of sales to the management team at Exclusive Automotive Group and the rest has been a wonderful dream ever since.  

As Finance Director, what are your key responsibilities and duties? 

Finding the most attractive financial institute for our clients borrowing needs whether it’s an exotic auto loan or lease. Completion of their Federal, State and Locality paperwork to finalize the deal. Funding the instrument via the institution that approved the loan/lease.

What is your favorite part of your job? 

We have a wonderful clientele who are getting into their first exotic vehicle. I love the thrill of getting their first exotic auto loan / lease approved. It’s always exciting to give the detailed story of our clientele to our underwriters at different financial institutions to find the right banking instrument for their first exotic vehicle. While very challenging, I love turning a “Hard No” from one bank into a “Yes” from another Bank. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing that client with a smile drive home in their dream exotic car.  

What have been your keys to success? 

Having an amazing team behind me such as our Owner Management, Mr. Metcalfe followed by my immediate partners such as Alvin, Andrew, Tate, Brendon, Steve and Regina. This combined with building many years of successful auto loan / lease portfolio with our lenders allows us to penetrate the market.

I also love to chat with our clients to understand the complete story behind their credit. This allows me to choose the right financial institution to send their loan/lease info. Having a story that goes with a credit, always assists to bring real life to a robotic decision.

From the perspective of the finance department, what have been EAG’s keys to success? 

I always love to add new financial institutions to our portfolio of banks. This opens more doors for our clients. We also love to look into modern options that assist our customers to protect their expensive assets.

Why do you believe EAG is the best in the industry? 

We care about our customers, and the sale comes as result. Many dealers chase the sale unfortunately. 

What is the biggest opportunity you foresee for EAG in the next five to ten years? 

Exclusive Automotive Group’s team is in a client servicing business. We love the high touch experience we provide for our client. The customer always comes first and we always like to make friends before making a sale. Combine this close friendship with volume and we are going to be the leading dealership in exotic auto retail in the DMV area.  

What are you looking forward to most with the opening of the new dealership? 

I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with my friends who happen to also be my co-workers in a new, state-of-the-art facility. I believe the sky is the limit!
